Every time that I am speaking at a conference or doing a workshop for the companies, or when I'm doing a one on one coaching with the executives, one of the things that I always get, you know, people tell me, is, Payal, I want to increase my confidence level because it's the backbone of success. It's the backbone of great leadership. Now, my friend, confidence does not come by reading books or listening to motivational tapes. It comes by practice. Now, let me tell you a little secret here. Confidence cannot be increased directly. It is done indirectly by learning how to reduce your self-doubt. When you reduce your self-doubts, your confidence automatically begins to go upward.
So let me share with you five ways in which you can increase your confidence by actually reducing your self-doubts. For one, don't take things personally all the time at work. Number two, focus on what you want to achieve. Number three, find validation within. Number four, practice daily leadership affirmations. Number five, never compare your achievements and growth with someone else. And let me give you a bonus one over here. Always separate your feelings from the fact.
I like what William James, the father of American psychology, said that the greatest revolution in our generation is the discovery that human beings, by changing their inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives. If you want to get rid of your self-doubt, start by changing how you look and think of yourself. Stop worrying about your inabilities and see yourself as a successful, confident, and self-reliant person that will increase your confidence level.
