Well, in one of my latest media interviews, I was asked how I stay on top of my game, and my simple response was: the game never stays the same, and nor do I. What I meant here was that my entire focus is on my game. Comparing ourselves to others creates a negative narrative in our heads that we are not enough. When I was learning how to play golf, I was taught not to look to the left or the right, and to only focus on the shot I was taking. That taught me a valuable lesson—it is very important for leaders to be aware of what's happening around them, inside their organization, as well as in the market.
You need to ensure that you don’t allow anyone to steal your lunch but instead focus on your great idea and what you want to achieve, because it will require all your energy. If that energy is spent focusing on someone or something else, you won’t go far in your career. There will always be people with more money or better talent, but you are the only one, and I repeat, the only one, with your brain, creativity, and power to execute.
The road to success, my friend, is long and windy. I encourage you not to spend your precious time worrying about someone else. Focus on your own game, your own strengths, and your unique abilities. That is where your energy should go, and that is how you will go far.
