In the past 18 years of coaching leaders, specially C-Suite ones, I have first hand seen the level of confidence they come with. It’s such a powerful and indispensable tool for success.
Because I have private access to some of the top industry leaders in the world, I have, they radiate a belief in themselves and their abilities, so much so that you may be swept up with them as they talk about their work or their plans or their goals.
However, I’ve noticed that in many leaders and functional heads somehow confidence seems elusive. These leaders are less sure of themselves, and find it difficult to make decisions without having them validated.
There are numerous leaders who approach me with helping them lead with confidence, like confidence while approaching external stakeholders, while giving presentations to the upper management, making tough decisions with speed, or maintaining authenticity during self-promotion, All of these can be potential roadblocks to leadership success.
Confidence is not something that would come by reading books on it. It’s a daily thing you build in. It’s a practice. It’s a belief that you can accomplish what you set out to do.
There are ways to build confidence. You acquire confidence through an imprecise alchemy of training, repetition, and steady improvement, each one feeding the other.
I encourage you to begin by identifying the
3 signs of lack of confidence :
You avoid conflict
You are overly concerned with perfection
You are good at communication but not at connecting with people.
