How to make the right decisions? Well, working with some of the most successful people in the world, I've observed that they follow a straightforward yet powerful decision-making equation, which is decision is equal to event plus feelings. This is something I have written in one of my books as well. While the majority of us focus on the event and our actions, these successful people consciously focus on the feeling element in decision-making.
They know that they cannot control the events in their life, but they can master how they experience them and how they respond to them. That's what differentiates their results. They separate the feelings from the facts. Emotions are strong enforcers, but you need to separate your feelings from the facts. For example, feeling stupid does not mean that you are stupid. The biggest reason people dread making tough decisions is that they are afraid it will not work out as planned. And what is fear? Fear is an emotion. So if you decide based on fear, what type of results are you going to get? Well, really, it's not going to be good results.
In fact, studies have shown that people who consistently make the right decisions have found that their feelings can affect not just the nature of the decision but also the speed at which they make it. For example, anger can lead to impatience and rash decision-making, while fear can slow you down in your decision-making process. Successful people recognize and understand their feelings to look at decisions as objectively and rationally as possible. When you have faith in yourself and possess the confidence and self-belief to trust your instincts, you are instilled with the ability to make the right decision without second-guessing your mind.
