THE IMPORTANCE OF NETWORKING

Often during my coaching sessions, I ask people, Are you networking in and outside of your industry?

And you might not be shocked at what most of them say. Their response is, No, they are not networking at all.

We feel that if we come to our job on time, work hard, take up extra projects, and mingle with people, things will align for us at work.

If you work with this mindset, my friend, then let me tell you this—you are basically a frog in the well. While there is an ocean available to you, you are losing out on connecting with people in and outside your industry.

Just think about it.

During a layoff, a recession, or when you want to change your job, who is going to get you there? Not just your recruiting agents or your current boss.

Gone are the days when you could apply for jobs, float your résumé around, and expect to be hired.

These days, hiring is based on:

Do I know you?

Have I met with you?

Have I conversed with you?

Do I trust you?

For people to know you, networking is a must.

95% of your success in your career will come from who you choose as your connections and how you maintain those connections.

And let me tell you—networking is not just about attending events and exchanging business cards. Oh, it’s so much more than that!

When done right, networking can be your biggest asset in your career. It’s not just about showing up at events and meeting people. It’s about building relationships.

I want to spotlight the word relationship—the intention to build strong, meaningful connections with people.

So don’t network just for the sake of it.

When I teach people about purposeful networking, I tell them it’s a cycle:

1️⃣ Meet people

2️⃣ Stay connected with them

3️⃣ Build relationships with them

4️⃣ Leverage that network for your growth

If you are not visible in and outside your industry and organization, you will not be able to go very far in your career.

Here’s what I want you to do:

Start connecting now.

Ask yourself this question daily:👉 Whom did I connect with today, and how am I making a difference in somebody’s life?
