WHY YOU SHOULD NOT BECOME A LEADER

Here's your content formatted into three paragraphs without changing the words:

Leadership isn't for everyone. You either love it or you don't. In fact, the other day, a, you know, a colleague, in fact, a client of mine who works at one of the departmental stores. He's the vice president. He said something to me very well. You know, he said, Payal, they want me to move into a much bigger management role, and I don't want to go beyond this because that will include me having a lot to do with people. And I'm really happy working, doing what I am doing and managing the, you know, what I am now. This isn't the first time I have heard such comments made by talented employees, and my response to them is never like, oh, if you don't take this opportunity, you will not get another one in the future. No, I don't think so. What I actually genuinely believe is that there are two types of people in the corporate world, one who are very people-oriented and one who are technical-oriented. And so you have to ask yourself, is it genuinely your dream to guide, teach, and direct the success of others, what we call being a leader? Or are you happier being in control of your own world and not being worried about the activities of an entire team? And let me tell you, there is nothing wrong with being a top single contributor in any field. What matters most is that you know what is right for you.

Now let me give you. Here are some elements that will help you decide if leadership is for you. Now see, you shouldn't be. You shouldn't get into a leadership role or be a leader if you don't want to inspire people, if you don't, if you want to micromanage, if you want all the credit. You shouldn't be a leader if you usually are a person who avoids people problems. You don't like to deal with people. You prefer to work alone. You lack empathy. You avoid confrontation. You have trouble making decisions. You prefer someone giving you directions. You are more task-oriented than people-oriented. So if you feel that most of these elements are in you, then you really shouldn't opt in for being a leader.

You are doing great where you are. You can grow in your field. Technically, you can make a difference in the world doing what you are. Just be the best at what you are. It's not always about being a leader and managing people and having to have a team. Your success in the corporate world has a lot to do with your expertise, so try and know what you are expert at and begin to work in that direction.
